Although initial work was bogged down by several days of rain, Ludlow Construction crews have moved at a great pace, resulting in much more work being completed than originally anticipated. As of this writing, all mains and services have been installed in Mahkeenac. Remaining work includes road restoration, and loaming/seeding in disturbed areas. It is anticipated that actual road repaving will begin sometime the week of May 24th and take approximately 5-6 days to complete. Although Ludlow Construction’s contract only calls for paving the sewer trenches, our Highway Department is taking the opportunity to perform additional work, including reclaiming and paving the entire road surface on Mahkeenac, Indian Hill, Mahkeenac Heights- North, and Taghconic View Roads. A date for allowing actual connections to the sewer in Mahkeenac has not yet been established. The sewer mains still need to be tested and we need to make sure that the Wastewater Treatment Plant can handle any additional flow. When we are ready, possibly by July, you will be notified. The project’s next phase will begin in Glendale on Monday, May 17th, beginning on Route 183 at the Route 102 intersection and proceeding south. Although we were able to close roads in the Mahkeenac area during construction, this will not be possible in Glendale (with the exception of a small segment near Lukeman Lane). As a result, work will move slower with equipment blocking at least one lane of Route 183 at all times. This conflict will mean significant traffic delays, especially as the summer tourist season approaches and the amount of traffic increases. Although the actual begin date is unclear at this time, it is expected that a second crew will also begin work sometime before the end of May on the sewer main near the Glendale Fire Station. You should be aware that this work will be noisy, dusty, and frustrating to those motorists in a hurry and we ask for your patience. We will continue to issue these letters as events require. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to call our project consultant, Joseph Kellogg at 413/637-5477. Sincerely, Stockbridge Sewer and Water Commission Donald Schneyer Thomas Schuler Peter Socha
