March, 2004 Dear Future Sewer User: Spring is finally here and, as promised, Ludlow Construction has advised us they are in the process of gearing up for construction on the sewer collection project. Their schedule calls for work to begin on Monday, March 29, 2004 in the Mahkeenac area, continue until Memorial Day and then move to the Glendale area for the summer. Specifically, two different crews will be working in the area, one on Mahkeenac Road, installing the primary sewer main, together with laterals to houses along the road, and a second crew concentrating on installing the lines in Mahkeenac Heights. Ludlow is required to stop working in the Mahkeenac area by no later than Memorial Day, in order to avoid traffic congestion this summer. We don’t know if all work in those two areas will be completed by the time they depart for the summer, but all clean up and road repair will be done on those sections of road in which sewer pipe will be installed. After Memorial Day, and possibly sooner, all work will move to the Glendale area and will likely remain there until fall. Depending on weather, and other factors, the plan calls for a crew to return to Mahkeenac after Labor Day and hopefully complete that section by the following summer. Please be aware that, over the next two months, travel through the Mahkeenac area will be chaotic and often delayed. Due to the narrow width of Mahkeenac Road, and the fact that the sewer is being installed in the middle of the road, sections of the road will be closed to through traffic. Alternate routes of travel and detours have been set up and signs will be installed directing motorists to them. Local residential traffic will be maintained, but significant delays could occur. A detailed traffic plan has been prepared, which will be available for view on the Town’s web site (townofstockbridge.com) and copies will be placed in all Mahkeenac residences prior to any roads being closed. Your patience will be needed during the next two months. Additional letters will be issued as the project proceeds in order to keep you informed. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to call our project consultant, Joseph Kellogg at 413/637-5477. Sincerely, Stockbridge Sewer and Water Commission Donald Schneyer Thomas Schuler Peter Socha
