Laurie has just come from Paris, France where Norman Rockwell’s self portrait is on display. The exhibit is featuring Norman Rockwell on all of its advertising for the event – billboards, brochures, invitations – throughout Paris. The plans at the Museum are to have the final exhibition of Rockwell’s life, art and community running from June 5 through October 31 which will be called Hometown Hero, Citizen of the World: Rockwell in Stockbridge. On June 5, breakfast will be served at the Museum, the Town will be invited along with models from Stockbridge. Also, Ruby Bridges will speak at the Museum. She was featured in the painting of the black girl being escorted to school by Marshals. Ms. Bridges has never seen the original painting. July 31, will be models reunion day from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and Family Day will be August 14. Ann Jon, Sculpture Now, came to discuss the sculptures that will be placed along the Housatonic River for Housatonic River Summer 2004. The exhibit begins on June 12, 2004 and will close on October 31, 2004. The sculptures will be in Housatonic behind the Berkshire Bakery, at the Rockwell Museum, and on and near Butler Bridge. Most of sculptures will be in the field at the Museum, one piece will be floating in the river below the Studio affixed to a tree, and there will be three sculptures placed on and near the Butler Bridge. A concern was raised with Ms. Jon and the engineer, whether Clinton Schneyer our Highway Superintendent would allow Butler Bridge to be used for horse drawn carriages to travel down Main Street to the Museum during Columbus Day Weekend. One of the sculptures was intended to be placed in the middle of the entrance to the bridge which is for foot traffic only at this time. Cris will see how long it will take for the engineer to respond whether the bridge would be safe for the carriages to travel over so as to let Ms. Jon know soon so she could plan for the placement of the large sculpture. Deb made a motion to accept the resignation of Caroline Irsfeld as a School Committee Member with much regret. George seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. Deb made a motion to move the Town Offices to the Plain School when the school becomes vacant. A second was received from George. The vote was unanimous. Deb stated that one of the reasons why we are forced to move is that this building is not handicap accessible. George continued by saying that there would be a lot of future growth with the move as there could be Senior Center, and the Police Department would have greatly needed room. Cris stated that the Police Department has been working in a broom closet. Also we have a $50,000 grant for public restrooms that could be incorporated into the building. Emergency Management would be able to have space. George pointed out that both buildings would need an elevator; however the present Town Offices has limited space for future growth. Cris explained that the architects hired to look at the space in the present Town Offices, proposed lifting the building in order to utilize more space as we could not add on to the building. We could only go up or down as the land around the building is owned by the Congregational Church next door. A reminder was made that the Annual Town Meeting will be at the Stockbridge Sportsmen’s Club on May 17 at 6:30 p.m. The Baby Town Meeting will be held in the lobby of Town Hall on May 10 at 6:30 p.m. George made a motion to adjourn. Deb seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. A true copy, ATTEST:
