Message Mon, Nov 25, 2002 2:06 PM From: Brett Tartaglino To: StockbridgeMA_PlainSchMin Subject: Plain School Committee Minutes 11/13/2002 November 13, 2002 PRESENT: Larry Kurber, Donald Oakes, Les Rathbun, Joe Ruggio, Clint Schneyer, Rosie Schneyer, Jack Spencer, Sue Tracy and Deb McMenamy ABSENT: Tom Arienti, Tim Geller and Everett L. Jassy Next meeting will be on Wednesday, December 11th, 2002 at 4:30 p.m. at the Town Hall Jack Spencer presided. Topics of Discussion: Tour: Members of the committee discussed the tour of the Stockbridge Plain School that took place on October 30, 2002. Observations from members included: 1) the building looks like it will be difficult to develop 2) the modifications that have been made over the years look poor in quality and without thought of the future 3) it looks as though changes were made expediently to get ready for the school to become regional A member suggested an outside architect (with no preconceived notions) walks through the school and gives the committee his/her unbiased opinion of the building. The committee agreed. Deed: Joe Ruggio discussed the deed of the school. Joe said that the major problem with the deed is that it is restricted by a legislative enactment. The deed may have to be overridden by another legislative enactment. Joe asked Town Counsel to look further into this problem and advise the Town of the results. Also, confirmation was made that the school building is property of The Town of Stockbridge (not The Regional District). Zoning: Jack Spencer noted that The Stockbridge Plain School falls in the Town residential zone (not the business zone). The committee must take this under consideration when recommending the direction of the school. History: Rosie Schneyer reported that the Historical Commission did not have anything on record that would help this committee. Rosie found interesting historical articles but no pertinent information. Public Guidelines: Donald Oakes distributed the proposed Public Participation Guidelines. Misc: Joe Ruggio recommended that the committee get a general cost of running the building (including heating & lighting). Les Rathbun proposed that a few members visit and tour the town of Monson building in the near future. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
